20 Injured in Two Simultaneous Explosive attacks

About 20 people were injured in two Explosive devices detonated in Rwanda's capital, one near Rwanda's main genocide memorial. The Rwanda police said the devices were grenades.

"At least 20 people were wounded in the near-simultaneous blasts on Thursday night," said a medical source in Kigali. 

One person was killed in similar attacks last month in Kigali. The attacks were blamed on two high-ranking officers now in exile.

a._k._habyarimanaThe widow of former Rwandan President Juvenal Habyarimana, whose assassination sparked the 1994 genocide, was arrested Tuesday in Paris on a Rwandan warrant, French and Rwandan officials said. Just hours after her arrest in France, Agathe Kanziga Habyarimana, was released on bail. Her arrest on an international warrant, issued by the Rwandan government came barely a week after French President Nicolas Sarkozy visited Rwanda,in the first visit by a French president in over a quarter decade.While questions linger why it took the French authorities such a long time to apprehend her, Rwanda's foreign affairs minister and government spokesperson Louise Mushikiwabo hailed the move, "the reaction of the Rwandan government is of course welcoming that move, we believe justice delayed is justice denied.

According to the Government 35% of Uganda's population live below poverty. National estimates of the percentage of the population falling below the poverty line are based on surveys of sub-groups, with the results weighted by the number of people in each group. Definitions of poverty vary considerably among nations.

Hundreds Feared Dead in Eastern Uganda Landslides PDF Print E-mail

A landslide in eastern Uganda after heavy rains killed at least 45 people and hundreds are feared missing, Uganda's Disaster Minister said on Tuesday.

The landslide engulfed an entire village in the eastern Bududa district near Mt Elgon on Monday night.

The minister for Disaster Preparedness and Refugees Tarsis Kabwegyere confirmed reports that 45 five bodies have already been recovered.

More than 350 people are feared dead and are still missing after the disaster that hit immediately after the downpour. About 45 bodies have been retrieved from the rubble while eight people have been rushed to Bududa Hospital

 

Kabwegyere said a government response team was on the ground with food and the Red Cross had sent doctors. Police and volunteers were also helping in the rescue.
