20 Injured in Two Simultaneous Explosive attacks
About 20 people were injured in two Explosive devices detonated in Rwanda's capital, one near Rwanda's main genocide memorial. The Rwanda police said the devices were grenades.
"At least 20 people were wounded in the near-simultaneous blasts on Thursday night," said a medical source in Kigali.
One person was killed in similar attacks last month in Kigali. The attacks were blamed on two high-ranking officers now in exile.
Lt Gen Faustin Kayumba Nyamwasa, a former chief of staff and ambassador to India, and friend of Rwanda's president denied the allegations in detailed interview published in Kampala's leading private daily, The monitor.
Kayumba told media houses that the Rwandan authorities had staged grenade attacks and then accused him of being behind them.
Earlier he was stripped of his diplomatic post after the authorities accused him of supporting the opposition.
Kigali says police have not yet identified those responsible for Thursday's blasts.
Elections are due in Rwanda in August - and will be the second presidential polls held since the 1994 genocide in which 800,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus were killed.
Lt Gen Kayumba Nyamwasa as one of the senior army officers who deserted Uganda's NRA, to invade Rwanda, played an important role in the rebel Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF). |
